Until you have coverage for Mexico with Mexican auto insurance. With many people traveling south of the border over winter, it’s time to get travel insurance.

- Most auto insurance companies in the U.S. have very limited to NO coverage in Mexico. Driving laws and habits differ greatly from country to country. Who’s in a better position than an actual Mexican auto insurance company themselves to assess the risk and provide proper coverage? Don’t assume you are covered by your current insurance; verify and act accordingly.
- Cover yourself with comprehensive and collision to protect from theft and crime. Unfortunately, the current state of affairs in Mexico are dangerous. Here’s what Travel.State.Gov says, “Reconsider travel due to crime and kidnapping.” So do thorough research about the place you’ll visit, and if it’s a hot zone for crime. But, regardless of the zone/area you’ll be visiting and its inherent dangers, protect yourself against unforeseen occurrences with travel insurance.
- Who do you call if you have a vehicle breakdown, run out of gas, or need a tow for any reason? Most travel insurance policies have an option to add towing with towing services prepaid. The last place you want to be stuck with a car issue is a foreign country, much less in the middle of the night. So don’t take the risk, add an Emergency Roadside Coverage endorsement to your coverage.
